Petra Business School (PBS) students recently had the opportunity to participate in the Freshmore Asian Cross-curricular Trips (FACT) 2025, a prestigious academic program organized in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). FACT is designed to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application, fostering cross-cultural teamwork and innovative problem-solving. This year’s program, held in Surabaya from January 13-17, provided an immersive experience where students tackled sustainability and community development challenges.

The program brought together 64 students from both institutions to engage in hands-on projects addressing real-world issues in local communities. A major highlight of the initiative was the visit to Rumah Padat Karya in Gunung Anyar, a district known for its grassroots economic empowerment programs. At these centers, students explored three key facilities: an educational farm (edufarm), a paving production unit, and Kedai Kopi Gunung Anyar, a community-run coffee shop. Through direct observation and interaction, participants analyzed the impact of these initiatives and brainstormed strategies to enhance their effectiveness.

PBS students played an active role in the program, collaborating closely with their peers from SUTD to develop innovative solutions. Their business acumen and problem-solving skills were put to the test as they devised strategies to improve the economic sustainability of the Rumah Padat Karya initiatives. By applying business concepts learned in class to real-life scenarios, they gained valuable insights into community-driven development and the challenges of social entrepreneurship.

One of the proudest moments for PBS came when one of its students emerged as the first-place winner in the FACT 2025 competition. The competition required students to present their findings and propose innovative solutions to enhance community-based programs. The PBS student’s winning presentation focused on creating a sustainable business model for Kedai Kopi Gunung Anyar, integrating digital marketing strategies and financial planning to boost profitability while maintaining social impact. This achievement highlighted not only the student’s strategic thinking but also the high caliber of education and experiential learning opportunities provided by PBS.

The FACT 2025 experience demonstrated the power of collaboration and international learning, equipping PBS students with the global skills necessary for today’s competitive business environment. It also reinforced the importance of applying business knowledge to drive positive social change.

For students looking for an education that blends academic rigor with real-world experience, PBS offers countless opportunities to participate in international programs like FACT. By joining PBS, students can gain global exposure, build valuable networks, and develop the skills needed to become future leaders in the business world. If you're ready to take your learning beyond the classroom and into real-world impact, PBS is the place for you!

Stay tuned for more updates on PBS students' achievements and upcoming international programs.
